ClaimDOC is a rapidly growing company in West Des Moines striving to the change the way healthcare works for the better.  We are currenting hiring an ASSOCIATE COUNSEL. 

Job Summary:

In this position you will provide legal services as a practicing counsel, which includes interpreting laws, rules and regulations across the country related to collection practices, insurance regulations and ERISA. More specifically, this position will advise the company to all departments as well as its internal programs that provide debt collection protection on behalf of a debtor; review medical documentation and prepare ERISA appeal documentation regarding claims under a client’s benefit plan; and prepare a variety of business contracts on behalf of the company. You will also be responsible for researching and monitoring laws and regulations that affect the company, as well as assisting with communication and documentation production for outside counsel.  More specifically the position will be responsible for subjects ranging from insurance, healthcare, reinsurance, consumer protection, debt collection defense (FDCPA, state counterparts, No Surprises Act), ERISA and compliance matters such as HIPAA/HITECH. This position will also be directly responsible for contract development and negotiation, risk management for the company, as well as advising marketing and sales.

This position is located at our headquarters in West Des Moines.

Qualification Requirements:

Earned a J.D. from an ABA-accredited law school and a member in good standing in the Iowa State Bar Association. Other state bar memberships acceptable as well.

Work Experience: 

Preferable experience includes ERISA and/or health benefits; litigation; debt collection or consumer protection; or transactional expertise. Ideal candidate has 5-10 years of experience in either an in-house position or private practice. Candidates with less or more experience are still encouraged to apply. Salary will be commensurate with experience.

  • Microsoft Office; comfort with variety of technology to learn new systems
  • Excels under pressure by balancing multiple tasks while maintaining attention to detail
  • Ability to communicate legal advice to a variety of audiences ranging from internal staff in all departments to client representatives
